Notes:
The Galliard is a quick leaping dance from Italy, with six beats. At the time this work might have seemed perhaps a bit outrageous to the conservative Spanish audience, as it carries with it a suggestion of raciness. Mudarra's Galliard is mainly chordal and bright, but at the ends of each phrase he shows his hand with quick decorative flourishes that make the piece have an idiomatic character. |
